and growing, and growing, and growing

decor8′s Creative Series: Just Do It! Tip # 2 was revealed this past Thursday… and it is an important one! (I doubt there’ll ever be a tip from Holly that isn’t important!) This week’s tip was to get active! Find time –no–MAKE TIME– to exercise. Exercise is a great tool for clearing the mind and freeing it from clutter, it’s YOU time. Not to mention the fact that regular exercise is always a good habit to have in your life…

So, why am I not exercising? There’s not one [good] reason I can think of … it’s beneficial in every way (including providing a creativity boost!). So there you have it, my newest goal…regular exercise, to make it a part of my life (again) and this time not for weight loss or to try to look nice for a particular event…but just because! This task (I say task because I have already committed myself to practicing all of Holly’s tips in this series) is going to really take some effort in time management and planning, no excuses. I will keep you posted on my progress. If you have any experience with this please share.

In addition to (planning to) exercise I have started reading The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron. Actually it is The Complete Artist’s Way, which is a compilation of 3 books By Julia Cameron: The Artist’s Way, Walking in This World, and Finding Water.

I am enjoying the book so far, even though I have never considered myself a “reader” (unless the Harry Potter Series counts—and it does!) But this is my third artist-centric book in 3 months and I really am starting to like reading! I’m sure the subject matter helps, reading about how my brain works or why I do what I do and have always done (as a creative person) fascinates me. It’s really helped me to let go of the negative thoughts that have caused me to feel self conscious and withdrawn in the past. I have  expanded my artist/design blog reading as well, so much so that I almost neglect to post on my own blog! Everyone’s insight and creative vision is so very encouraging to me and never boring. You might have noticed I have included two new “buttons” at right for the blog of the week and found objects, that’s so  you’ll know what I’m reading or am particularly impressed with lately. On a different, yet related topic — it will probably be another month until I open my etsy shop, even though I had planned for February 1st. Normally, if I miss a self-imposed deadline,  I begin to doubt whether I am capable of doing it at all, but I don’t feel that way right now. I’m just taking everything day by day, planning and getting things in order, no pressure, no rush, no judging. It’s such a relief! So much more painless than how I would have perceived things a year or so ago. And that’s how I measure my growth…I’m an ever-evolving before and after…
