Etsy love on location :: Savannah, GA

Creativitae postings have been sparse this week, I’ve been overwhelmed with the “day job” changes and didn’t want to post if my heart and mind were not in it. As I predicted, topic one of the Creativitae Look Up series was a great help to me, even if it meant giving myself a break from posting so that I could recoup.

I do love Savannah, GA.  After attending 4 years of college there I moved back to Upstate New York briefly but, as soon as I could, I moved back to the South. The closest job I could find in Savannah was in Jacksonville, FL. I had thought that eventually I would move back to Savannah (I never wanted to leave in the first place), but responsibilities prevailed and I have been here in Jacksonville for almost 11 years. I really like living in Florida. No state income tax, I know there are more reasons…but I’ve been focused on Savannah all morning so I can’t think of any at the moment. I dream so vividly about Savannah I can even smell the magnolias that flanked my path to class everyday. And my hair always did better in Savannah somehow, must have been the afternoon sunshowers providing just the right humidity. So I am dedicating this Etsy love post to Savannah inspired items. All beautifully strong and graceful much like the city herself.

Savannah Soap Kitchen (great name!) is a shop with a lovely variety of soaps and creams. There is a Must Have Savannah Gift Set available that includes your choice of soap, perfume, and art print. With over 20 scents to choose from, there’s sure to be something for everyone.

JhillDesign.etsy.com

JhillDesign has a variety of prints available. All superb examples of color and pattern used to impart the energy of the location they are inspired by. The above Savannah, Georgia print is an 8″x10″ inkjet on watercolor paper, I love the texture in this product shot.

If you’ve visited Savannah, you remember the ornate ironwork that exists throughout downtown. I’ve decorated my living/dining room spaces with scrolling ironwork for just this reason. These Savannah Gate Earrings from Le Boudior Secret are an ode to Savannah’s beautiful ironwork.

Riverstreet, cobblestone, impossible staircases (in heels anyway) is most likely why this photograph, available in Phill55188′s Shop is titled “Able”. There are many Savannah prints available in the shop, but this one with the wavy hand rail brought a wide grin to my face.

LilyPoppet.etsy.com

I found this item in Lily Poppets shop appealing. “It’s loaded with buttercream icing, sweet southern pralines, and caramel apples” after reading that I had to agree with the scent’s name. (and I am thankful it doesn’t smell like Riverstreet the Sunday after St. Patty’s day!)

theinklab.etsy.com

I could not get away with a Savannah feature without including the fountain at Forsyth Park. I lived across from the park during my junior year, and I roller bladed around this fountain too many times to count. Maybe I love Savannah because it is the only place I have ever been skinny?

The Ink Lab on Etsy has some awesome ink drawing prints and notecard sets available. The above image is one in a set of 8 notecards depicting four fountains of Savannah; Forsyth Park, Columbia Square, Bonaventure Cemetery, and Lafayette Square.

perpetuity

This image isn’t available on Etsy, it’s mine, I found it among other things in my Intro to Photography class portfolio and decided it belonged in this post. This image is a double exposure taken at the Bonaventure  Cemetery (the cemetery from the book Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil). It’s not photoshopped, it’s a shot I was able to achieve through much trial and error with my manual camera; halving exposures of two photos and layering the shot by not forwarding the film. Yeah, it got me an A, but that’s not why I love it. I love it because it’s an example of one of the first times I thought of something I wanted to do and made it happen…of figuring things out on my own.
