Best alternative to a collar I’ve seen in a while… and cute to boot.

Maybe it’s the short hair, maybe it’s a sign I’m growing up (a little), but I’m really getting into jewelry lately. Nest Pretty Things has some gorgeous pieces. The Little Dusty Blue Rose Necklace above caught my eye today. Sweet, flirty, feminine, vintagy love.

My first Etsy love feature of 2011 and the theme is…you guessed it, WOOD! Time to start thinking about Valentine’s Day; it’s right around the corner. I’m also thinking about February’s desktop wallpaper and FREE printable. It’s going to be LOVELY. [wink]

Check out the Etsy goodness you can give to your best furry friends this holiday. This week we will give thanks for many things. Friends, family, health, recovery. I’m thankful for those things and for my pets Bailey and Kitty. They’ve been with me for 11 years and even if I’m having a rough time with things they are always there, happy to see me. Thanks guys.

Canadian geese are everywhere lately. Yesterday, halfway home from the day job, they blocked traffic on a busy highway. Today they blocked my exit from the parking lot. It’s strange how unafraid they are. They are big, beautiful, and brave. So, this month’s Etsy love I dedicate to them.

When I read that most teens cannot write in cursive I was beside myself. Then I started thinking about my own jumbled handwriting and noticed that I barely write in cursive. I usually mix printing with cursive and it’s not so pretty to look at. My mother and sister have beautiful handwriting. It’s so pretty you can hardly read it! So, this month’s Etsy love is dedicated to penmanship.

This month’s theme is something that is important to my work and my life: attention to detail. I feel as if I’ve been swimming through details the last 3 weeks. What stays, what goes, what is and what will be. And, I had no trouble finding lovely things to occupy this post.

I’m in nesting mode and in the process of purging a lot of things from the house in order to make room for new and inspired finds. I’d love to move into a new house (instead of the townhouse in which I reside) but I worry that it won’t have the same “feel” as my quirky little circa 1956 diggs. I’ve been collecting a lot of pretty images lately. I love these two shops: Nest Pretty Things and Nest Pretty Things Kids (image above) by Tamar. Her blog is also quite inspiring.
And, I’m definitely going to pick up this book, Weekend Sewing by Heather Ross. I leafed through it over the weekend and could tell right away that it was my kind of How-To. I promise to share the pretty things I create from it. If you’ve been inspired lately or, like me, you’ve been in nesting mode please leave a comment and share.

I’m not very frilly actually. I’d like to be but I suppose I’m a bit too lazy or clumsy. Whenever I get “dolled up” I either fall down or drip food on myself or both. I love just about everything in Lirola‘s shop though and aspire to someday dress as feminine as these lovely ruffles. (sigh)
