blog crush :: eat drink chic

I’m excited to tell you about my latest blog crush: eat drink chic by Amy Moss. Does everything from Australia have to be so darn wonderful? I guess it does because I am in love with reading this style blog. Especially the DIY projects and darling found objects. The girl’s got style and a great eye (check out her surprise wedding and her window display!) Lahuvinit! Amy is a generous creative soul and I look forward to following her blog and feeling inspired by her beyond beautiful aesthetic.

blog crush :: the purl bee

I’m all about community lately. My latest blog crush makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. It just feel’s like home, ya know? The Purl Bee is an online craft journal of Purlsoho.com, Purl, and Purl Patchwork all great places to find fabric and knitty goodness. I’m tempted to join The Purl Beehive every time I visit The Purl Bee. But starting another blog right now would just be selfish. I’m staying open to the possibility of migrating one of my blogs there after the new Etsy shop is underway. We can talk more about that later. I encourage everyone to visit the network of blogs in The Purl Beehive, tons of inspiration to be found. Currently, there are many project ideas on the Purl bee for Mother’s Day gifts, so go check them out!

twice as nice :: The Brightside Project

TheBrightSideProject

Can it be? Can The Brightside Project get any brighter??? Well the answer is a resounding YES! The Brightside Project hosts a giveaway daily…you read that right…daily. Each month is themed and this month’s theme is The List. As in, the list of special people for whom you buy gifts and create joy for (because you rock it like that). Basically, with each giveaway you answer a specific question, by way of leaving a comment. The winners are announced on Wednesdays. That’s all, just read, comment, wish, and you may win! November is extra special though…The List is a one for them and one for you…that’s right, double the gifts! How can you not go there right now and participate? Why, it would be irresponsible of you not to, and un-American!! (too much? ok, sorry, I got carried away)

BREATHE

You can thank Miss B. and Miss K. by spreading the word about The Brightside Project through Facebook, Twitter, your blog or just leave them a comment and tell them how awesome they are. They work extraordinarily hard to brighten our days, they deserve some love!

blog crush :: speaking for herself

speakingforherself

I’ve posted links to this site before but now I’m teetering on the edge of a full blown mad crush on this blog speaking for herself. It’s more than just pretty pictures and pretty words, this blog has a soul and I love reading it and finding in it relevance to my life, my love, my loss and my recovery of self. I would never fancy myself a poet. I wish I could pluck out all my feelings and make them into tangible prose. Thankfully now, this site can do some of that for me. Here’s one thought worthy bit from a Sept. 14th post titled et aujourd’hui

“sometimes it is only a fragment that can be written aloud. everything else is too itself to be named, too holy to be spoken, too painful to be held in the fragile net of words, of this present moment. and for every silken string in the sostenuto of this in-between . . . there is a word, an idea, a way of representing what is. but today i leave it all to the half-world. i sense that the molecules of this hour are not closely bound enough to remain intact if i were to pull at the edge of the world and trace its jagged outline.” adapted from speakingforherself.blogspot.com

blog crush :: papernstitch

papernstitch

Yes, I am smitten once again with a shiny new blog. I actually found papernstitch before I found papernstitch the blog. Papernstitch is a virtual gallery for handmade businesses where they can host their wares and link back to the venue they sell on (EtsyBig CartelArtfire, etc.). The site is currently undergoing a mini (or maxi!) facelift scheduled for unveiling on August 26th (EEK! That’s today!) and I’m giddy with anticipation! But let’s get to the love shall we?

Papernstistch the blog is an art, design, craft, fashion, lifestyle oriented site. The site is clean and the content is refreshing (4-6 posts daily!). I love that the site has contributors and I’ve visited all the advertisers sites (I admit I never do that) and they were great as well (even fattened up my inspiration list with a few of them!). It makes me wonder if I’ll ever have contributors or advertisers (she said as her voice trailed off wistfully) until then I will be admiring papernstitch the blog in and totally un-stalky but potentially gushy sort of way. For more background, here is a clip from the founder of papernstitch, the site and the blog,Brittni.

blog crush :: pia jane bijkerk

piasbook

I’ve been harboring a crush for a couple months now. As crushes go, this one’s a doozy. I first saw Pia Jane Bijkerk on the Design for Mankind Series: Dialogue (episodes 2 and 5). Since then I’ve seen her featured many times in blogland and each time I was in awe of how she can just take things and make sense of them, like it’s the most natural thing in the world for her to just know how to place things. I just love her aesthetic and her common sense. She’s done many things I can only dream about, being the shy hermit that I am. She’s traveled, worked for Vogue Entertaining + TravelReal SimpleSaatchi and SaatchiTommy Hilfiger and Philips. Pia was born in Ireland and grew up in Australia. She divides her time between Syndey, Paris and currently lives on a houseboat in Amsterdam. (have I mentioned my fear of water?) I could listen to her talk all day, and her first book, Paris Made by Hand is now available. She’s working on another book titled My Heart Wanders and I’m quite excited to see what it’s all about. As I have fumbled the last week with my product shots for the Etsy shop I have become even more impressed and inspired by Pia’s innate sense for design and styling. Her blog is as beautiful as the work she does in her professional life. It’s calm and delicate and just makes sense. The site “breathes” and that’s what I am drawn to. (sigh) I find so much inspiration in her work. I hope you enjoy her talent and her blog as much as I do. But I call dibbs! (wink)

blog crush :: poppytalk

poppytalk

Poppytalk is a Canadian design blog collecting inspiration and
promoting emerging design talent.” Poppytalk.blogspot.com

It’s going to be a Handmade July my peeps and I’m kicking it off with my shiny new, ahem, I mean my beautiful-decayed-handmade blog crush :: Poppytalk. Gosh, I do love the Canadians, I’m like 17% Canadian yah kno!

I’m gearing up to post my first items in the shop come August (I’m such a tease, right?!). So I’ve been working hard to watch and learn from the best. And if you’ve ever visited Poppytalk you know there’s a lot to admire and absorb and druel over. Which I most definitely have been doing, from afar and with bowl of ice cream in hand. (sigh) But that’s what crushes are for right? This one may linger for a while. I really like that Poppytalk has weekly contributors curating the finds (the “newbies” include Lisa Congdon, Andrea of Hula Seventy, and Will “Mr Fancy Pants” Bryant) much like my last and still warm and fuzzy blog crush Share Some Candy. Whoa, I feel dizzy. Too much love, for one girl to handle, phew. I need a drink of water.

blog crush :: share some candy

ShareCandy

You may have noticed I renamed my “blog of the week” category to “my blog crush”. Since that’s what it is, really; an admiration, a warm and fuzzy borderline stalker-esque appreciation, a crushy crush on the bloggy blog that can tend to last a little longer than a whole week (ok, I know, too gushy–but crushes are supposed to be gushy). My newest crush is Share Some Candy, a site dedicated to curating inspiring design and art finds (design eye candy, if you will) and I am loving it!

There are a variety of curators for the site, including Erin Loechner of design for mankind (a previous “blog crush” that I visit daily). I love the format of the blog, giant photos make me smile (although that may change as there is a note explaining that the site is undergoing a face lift — I hope they keep the larger images). There’s a lot of great features like a directory of artists, illustrators, designers and photographers and many categories of work to pick from. I am partial to the typography and handmade stuff sections. (but I am sure you already knew that!)

blog of the week :: vol.25

VOL25Check it out peeps! The newest blog of the week is up… have you clicked on over yet? Jessica Rose, the voice behind vol.25 is shall we say: awesome!  I love her work, she has an Etsy shop (adorable), and designs stamps, you know – the rubber kind for like stamping all kinds of crafty things (so freekin cute!). I can’t decide which I like better, her line art drawings or her full color work. Another great thing about vol.25 is the freebies. Check out her deliciously cute (and did I mention FREE?) recipe cards here. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention that Jessica’s first book (a 50 page baby book featuring her artwork) is available on Blurb, It’s called ZoOo Love and it is quite precious.
